How to Fix PS4 not turning on after a loud pop?As the causes are as diverse so as the fixes. We try as much as possible to see if you can get your PlayStation 4 to function properly through the steps we’re providing.

#1 Clean up your buttons

Physical buttons for powering on the console and ejecting discs are present on both the PlayStation 4 Pro (a later model that supports 4K display resolutions) and the smaller PS4 Slim.

However, earlier iterations of the console have touch-sensitive areas for carrying out these functions. They can turn on by themselves if they come in contact with dirt or dust.

Try to clean up the buttons especially the on one and try turning it on again.

#2 Check the cable connections

Your PS4 could lose the connection if your power cable is flimsy. Ensure that it is securely attached to the console as well as the wall outlet or power strip.

#3 Let your PS4 console rest

The system may be overheating if the problem is accompanied by a blinking and/or colored power light. You might want to try briefly unplugging it from the wall. Attempt it once more using a different outlet.

If the issue is caused by overheating, move the device from its normal place to a cooler one! It may not have enough space to exhaust the hot air it produces; move it out of the cubby into the cool air.

#4 Examine your software for updates

Go to Settings > System Software Update > Update Now to see if your system needs an update if it starts to shut down after you’ve used it for a while rather than right away.

Additionally, it’s possible that the firmware you’re using right now is corrupt, in which case you might need to install a fresh copy on an external drive.

In that case, go to Sony’s website and follow the instructions they provide for that issue!

#5 Reset your PS4 console

This step involves completely wiping the hard drive and resetting the system to its initial configuration. Follow the instructions by selecting Settings > Initialization > Initialize PS4 on the console to carry out this action.

#6 Switch to PS4’s safe mode

You should try Safe Mode if the system won’t stay on long enough for you to try some of these fixes. It may be able to avoid whatever is causing the PS4 to malfunction because it’s in a state where it only performs the most essential operations. To get to the safe mode follow these steps:

#1 Disconnect the console.

#2 Hold the power button down. When you first press it, you’ll hear a beep; however, keep holding it until you hear another one, which will happen after about seven seconds.

#3 Connect your controller, then press the PS button on it.

#7 Examine the hard drive

A faulty hard drive can prevent your console from operating at all, while one that is seated incorrectly can lead to performance issues. The PS4’s hard drive may need to be replaced, but the simplest fix is to make sure the drive is firmly placed.

Your hard drive’s model determines how you access it:

PlayStation 4: Slide the cover of the top-left side.
PlayStation 4 Slim: Slide the console’s back cover.
PlayStation 4 Pro: Turn the console on its side and take off the back cover.
