There are two reasons why the iPad thinks that the headphones are plugged in when they are not!

How to dry the water in the iPad headphone port?

Don’t panic, you can easily dry out the water from the port with a few simple steps!

Get a Q-tip

This method is easy and the tool you want is available at home!

Get the Q-tip and then wrap the fibers tightly around the Q-Tip stick (this step is necessary to ensure that the fibers you are inserting into the iPad port do not stick).

Carefully, insert it into the headphones’ port and twirl it a few times to remove any water residue. To get the swab tip to fit, you may need to remove some of the Q-Tip swabs and re-wrap them.

Use a toothpick

If the Q-tip method doesn’t work, use the toothpick as it is thinner and can reach deeper.

Wrap a tissue or a piece of cotton around the toothpick and remove any other liquid residue that may still be lingering.

Don’t use or insert anything metal in your iPad as it can cause damage!

The Dos and Don’ts

DON’T use a hairdryer, a space heater, or any other source of heat to dry off the liquid. An iPad can be severely damaged by excessive heat.

DO leave your iPad for at least 24 hours (preferably 48 hours) for your iPad to rest. The iPad should be propped up with the home button at the bottom.

If there is any water in the iPad, it most likely got into the home button, lightning port, or bottom speakers.
