What this methodology covers

What these rules cover

Research Reports

All-computer, MacBook and laptop-screen reports.

Diagnostic Guides

Symptom guides that use PRM repair-record evidence without turning service records into product-wide failure probabilities.

Data Resources

Tables that use the same record counts, definitions and limitations.

Record dates

The repair records used in this research

The repair export covers May 18, 2022 through August 30, 2026. The qualifying computer-record period is May 27, 2022 through August 29, 2026.

Exact dates are disclosed for transparency. They do not imply that the research sample represents Phone Repair & More's complete historical repair volume.

“Based on a selected sample of real repair records from Phone Repair & More’s internal operational data.”

Phone Repair & More®'s separate 2M+ devices repaired marketing claim is not used to calculate the percentages in this research.

How we prevent duplicate record IDs

Ticket numbers can repeat across systems

How each repair record is identified

We combine the system sub-domain with the ticket number so repeated ticket numbers from different systems are not treated as the same record.

This combination prevents matching two different records simply because their ticket numbers are the same.

How the record count changes

3,593 → 3,085 → 2,142

StageCountRule
Candidate records3,593Meets the published Laptop / Computer inclusion rules.
Completed records3,085Counted as completed only when the recorded status is invoiced.
Records used in analysis2,142Completed records remaining after the listed exclusions.

Why 943 completed records were not used in the category analysis

943 completed records excluded

ExclusionCountReason
Diagnostic-only853The record only documents diagnosis and does not identify completed repair work.
Explicit warranty / rework35Only records explicitly marked as warranty or rework were excluded; this should not be read as a complete warranty rate.
Administrative / no repair41Administrative record that does not describe completed repair work.
Unusable Problem14The recorded problem description was not clear enough for reliable grouping.
Total9433,085 completed records − 943 exclusions = 2,142 records used in analysis.

Device groups

Seven device groups plus a separate gaming-computer flag

Gaming computers are marked separately from the main device groups: 182 candidate records, 163 completed records and 89 records used in analysis. The group is small, so PRM keeps comparisons limited.

PC laptop does not mean Windows unless the source data explicitly supports Windows identification.

How each repair record is counted

Each record is counted once in the main category table

Each record used in the analysis is counted once in one main repair category so the percentages do not double-count repairs. A ticket can mention more than one issue, but only one main category is used in the published distribution.

These categories describe the type of service recorded. They do not prove the exact failed component in every repair.

How we handle small groups

We use extra caution when a group is small

20 or more records

We may show both the count and percentage with the standard research limitations.

10 to 19 records

We show the count and percentage with a clear note that the group is small.

5 to 9 records / fewer than 5

For 5 to 9 records, we normally show the count without emphasizing a percentage. For fewer than 5 records, we do not publish a standalone percentage comparison.

Customer appointment reports

Customer appointment reports stay separate from completed repair records

The appointment sample contains 191 Laptop appointments: 167 Approved, 14 Canceled and 10 Price on Request, covering December 22, 2023 through August 28, 2026.

Appointment records show how customers described problems before diagnosis. They are not used as confirmed repair findings.

“Appointment data reflects issues customers selected or described before diagnosis. It should not be interpreted as technician-confirmed faults or completed repairs.”

The appointment records were not matched to completed repair records, so PRM does not publish claims about how often a reported symptom led to a particular repair.

How to read the research

What these records can and cannot tell you

“These figures describe the distribution of service categories within the selected Phone Repair & More repair-record sample. They are not product-wide failure rates, defect rates, reliability estimates, or probabilities that any laptop or computer model will experience a given problem. The sample consists only of devices that entered PRM’s service workflow and may reflect PRM’s locations, customer mix, services offered, record-keeping practices, and the period analyzed.”

“Percentages use the stated PRM sample denominator only and should not be generalized to the installed population of laptops or computers.”
