Before You Visit

Safe checks worth trying first

A few simple checks can rule out cables, inputs and airflow problems without opening the console.

Worth trying

  • For PS5 or Xbox no signal, test another HDMI cable and another TV input.
  • For a disc-read problem, try another clean disc and restart the console.
  • For overheating, make sure the vents are clear and the console has open airflow around it.
  • For a Switch that will not charge, try a known-good charger and visually check the USB-C port for obvious debris without forcing anything into it.
  • For a frozen console, perform a normal full shutdown, disconnect power briefly, then restart.

Please avoid

  • Do not keep wiggling or forcing a loose HDMI cable into a damaged port.
  • Do not put metal tools into an HDMI or USB-C port.
  • Do not keep using a console that repeatedly shuts itself down from heat.
  • Do not keep forcing discs into a drive that is grinding or rejecting them.
  • Do not open the console or attempt soldering if you are not equipped for electronics repair.
