Short answer

How much does Geek Squad charge?

Geek Squad charges $14.99 to $249.99 for its listed menu services. The three prices most people are searching for are $84.95 plus parts for in-store physical computer damage, $149.99 for virus removal and operating system repair, and $39.99 for computer or tablet setup and hardware installation. iPhone screen replacement through Best Buy’s Apple Authorized Service Provider programme starts at $129 and varies by model. A My Best Buy Total membership costs $199.99 per year and includes most of the listed computer and tablet services outright, plus 20% off repair labor.

The number that catches people out: listed service prices cover labor only. Parts are billed separately, and hardware repairs sent to a Best Buy repair facility are quoted after inspection rather than up front.

Geek Squad splits its work three ways — in the store, remotely over phone or chat, and in your home. The delivery method changes the price more than the task does.

In-store Geek Squad prices: $14.99 – $200

In-store work covers hands-on jobs: physical damage, data recovery, installs and setup. This is the tier that most repair searches actually land on.

Memberships

Is My Best Buy Total worth $199.99?

Most of the listed computer and tablet services above are included outright with Total. If you were going to pay for two of them anyway, the membership is already cheaper.

A note on the prices you will see elsewhere

Several widely-cited Geek Squad price guides still list My Best Buy Plus at $49.99 and Total at $179.99. Both figures are out of date. Best Buy’s own membership page currently states $29.99 for Plus and $199.99 for Total. The figures in the table below were read directly from that page on 26 July 2026.

What Total actually covers

Best Buy lists five services as included with Total: virus removal and operating system repair ($149.99), data backup or transfer ($99.99), PC tune-up and cleaning ($49.99), PC or tablet setup ($39.99) and hardware installation ($39.99). Taken together that is $379.95 of listed service value against a $199.99 fee — provided you actually need more than one of them in a year.

Total makes sense if…

  • You buy new Apple hardware from Best Buy and want AppleCare+ bundled.
  • You expect two or more software or setup jobs this year.
  • You want 24/7 phone support on tap.
  • You have several devices in the household needing occasional help.

Total is poor value if…

  • Your problem is one cracked screen or one dead battery.
  • Your device was not bought at Best Buy and is out of warranty.
  • You need the repair finished this week rather than shipped out.
  • The 20% discount applies to labor only — on a parts-heavy repair it saves little.

Read the 20% discount carefully

Best Buy’s own disclosure states it applies to labor only, and that parts, accessories and permits are charged on top. On a screen replacement, where the panel is most of the bill, the saving is modest.

Apple repairs

Geek Squad iPhone repair cost and AppleCare.

This is the one area where Best Buy holds a genuine structural advantage over any independent shop, and it is worth understanding exactly why.

Is Best Buy an Apple Authorized Service Provider?

Yes. Best Buy operates as a full-service Apple Authorized Service Provider. Geek Squad Agents performing Apple repairs are Apple-trained, repairs use genuine Apple parts, and Best Buy states you will not pay more for Apple service there than at any other Apple Authorized Service Provider. That authorization is a real thing, and it matters in three specific situations: an in-warranty repair, an AppleCare+ claim, and any repair where you need Apple’s parts pairing and service history to stay clean.

How much is iPhone screen repair at Best Buy?

iPhone screen replacement through Best Buy starts at $129 and rises with the model — newer Pro and Pro Max panels cost substantially more than that entry figure. Because Best Buy prices Apple repairs to Apple’s own authorized-provider schedule, the figure you are quoted should match what Apple would charge for the same out-of-warranty repair.

Apple repair paths at Best Buy compared
Your situationWhat you payBest route
In warranty, manufacturing defect $0 Best Buy or Apple. Do not use a third party — you would be paying for something covered.
AppleCare+ active, accidental damage Apple’s service fee Best Buy or Apple. The service fee is set by Apple, not by the store.
Out of warranty, no AppleCare+ $129+ Worth comparing. This is where independent pricing usually undercuts.
Out of warranty, older iPhone $129+ Compare against the phone’s resale value before repairing at all.

Does Best Buy accept AppleCare and AppleCare+?

Best Buy supports AppleCare-covered repairs at participating stores through its Apple Authorized Service Provider status. Separately, a My Best Buy Total membership includes AppleCare+ on eligible Apple products bought at Best Buy, for up to 24 months while the membership stays active. Those are two different things and people conflate them constantly: one is Apple’s coverage being honoured, the other is Best Buy bundling Apple’s coverage into a subscription. Cancelling the membership cancels any remaining months of the bundled protection.

Before any Apple repair, anywhere

Back the device up, know your Apple ID password, and turn off Find My so Activation Lock does not block the repair. A device that arrives locked usually comes straight back to you unrepaired, and the appointment slot is gone.

Android and Samsung

Does Best Buy repair Samsung phones?

Samsung screen repair through Best Buy starts at $149.99, higher than the Apple entry price. Availability is the bigger issue: Samsung repair support varies by store, model and parts stock in a way that Apple repair does not, because Best Buy’s authorized-provider relationship with Apple has no exact Samsung equivalent at every location. Call the specific store with your exact model number before you drive over.

For other Android brands — Google Pixel, Motorola, OnePlus, TCL — expect coverage to thin out further. This is the category where independent shops most reliably win on both price and turnaround, simply because they stock a wider range of panels and are not routing anything through a central repair facility.

Laptops and computers

How much is laptop repair at Best Buy?

The most searched question on this topic, and the one with the least satisfying answer, because the honest response is that the listed price is only the starting line.

Best Buy’s in-store physical damage service carries a flat labor charge of $84.95 plus parts. That $84.95 buys the technician’s time. It does not buy the screen, the hinge, the keyboard, the battery or the board. On a cracked laptop screen, the panel is usually the larger half of the bill, and panels range enormously: a basic non-touch LCD is a fraction of the cost of a touch-enabled OLED assembly with an integrated frame.

Why Best Buy laptop screen repair is quoted, not listed

There is no single laptop screen price because there is no single laptop screen. Four variables move the number more than anything else:

  1. Panel type. Non-touch LCD, touch LCD, and OLED are three different price brackets.
  2. Assembly versus bare panel. If the bezel, hinge or lid is damaged, the whole assembly is replaced.
  3. Part availability. A common Dell or HP panel is cheap and quick. A two-year-old ultrabook panel may be neither.
  4. Where the work happens. Bench repairs finish faster than anything routed to a repair facility.

The question that saves people the most money

Ask this before approving anything, at any shop: “Is that quote diagnostics only, labor only, or the complete repair including parts?” A large share of complaints about repair pricing trace back to a customer hearing one number and being billed against a different one. Get the answer in writing.

Repair or replace?

The working rule most technicians use: if the repair estimate exceeds roughly half of what the same machine sells for used, replacement is usually the better call. That rule is especially firm on cracked monitor panels, where the panel alone can approach the price of a new monitor, and on laptops more than five or six years old.

The decision

Geek Squad or an independent shop?

We run repair stores, so treat this as an interested opinion — but the honest version. There are repairs we would send to Best Buy without hesitating.

Go to Geek Squad

When authorization or coverage is the deciding factor.

  • Your iPhone, iPad or Mac is still in warranty.
  • You hold active AppleCare+ and want the claim handled properly.
  • You already pay for My Best Buy Total and the service is included.
  • You want an in-home visit for setup, Wi-Fi or a TV mount.
  • You need Apple’s genuine-parts service record kept intact for resale or trade-in.

Go to an independent shop

When speed, parts breadth or total cost decide it.

  • The device is out of warranty with no coverage attached.
  • You need it back today, not after a repair-facility round trip.
  • It is an Android phone, a tablet, or a games console.
  • You want a diagnosis before you commit to spending anything.
  • You want a straight answer on whether the device is worth repairing at all.

What independent repair typically costs

Independent computer repair generally runs $50 to $150 for common work, against Geek Squad’s $84.95 labor plus parts for in-store physical damage. Third-party iPhone screen replacement typically runs $80 to $130 against $129 and up through an authorized provider. The gap is real but not enormous — and it narrows to nothing the moment warranty or AppleCare+ enters the picture, which is exactly why the coverage question should be settled first.

Check your coverage before you compare prices

Paying an independent shop for a repair your warranty or AppleCare+ would have covered is the single most expensive mistake in this whole decision. Confirm coverage status first. Compare prices second.

What the Geek Squad service fee does not cover.

“Geek Squad service fee” is used loosely to mean at least five different charges: a listed menu price, a diagnostic fee, a labor charge, an in-home call-out, or a membership-covered service. Before you hand the device over, get answers to these four.

Questions to ask before authorising a repair
AskWhy it changes the bill
Is this diagnostic-only?A diagnostic fee is often separate from the repair, and may not be credited against it.
Does this include parts?Listed labor prices generally do not. Parts are the larger share of most hardware repairs.
Is it repaired here or shipped out?A repair facility round trip turns a same-day job into a multi-day one.
Is it covered by warranty, AppleCare+ or a protection plan?Coverage can take the out-of-pocket cost to zero. Ask before, not after.
